Brazil’s Martinelli Advogados has expanded its tax, labour and employment practice areas by hiring lawyers from Tauil & Chequer Advogados in association with Mayer Brown, EY and Motta Fernandes Advogados as partners.
The Highly Recommended rm announced the arrival of Bianca Rothschild and Bruno Frydman Menaged to its partnership in Rio de Janeiro on 19 November – the same date that Mariana Brassaloti joined the São Paulo ofce – bringing the total partner tally to 102.
With 20 years of experience, Rothschild focuses on tax litigation matters. She spent the past two years as counsel at fellow Highly Recommended rm Tauil & Chequer. Before this, she worked in-house at Brazil’s Ministry of Finance, Rio de Janeiro based airport operator RIOgaleão and energy group Obredecht. She started her career in 2002 at Veirano Advogados.
In the same practice area, Frydman joins Martinelli after 16 years as tax manager at international consultancy EY. He specialises in tax planning and diagnostic work.
Martinelli’s managing partner, Juliana Martinelli explains that “a major [tax] reform is underway that will change the way our clients operate,” continuing that the team’s expansion is “preparing companies for the changes that are already happening and those still to come.”
In São Paulo, Brassaloti brings 18 years of experience to the labour and employment practice, with a focus on consulting on labour litigation, compliance and corporate ethics.
She spent three years at Motta Fernandes, which came after a ve-year stint at Elite rm BMA Advogados. Brassaloti also boasts associate experience at highly regarded Brazilian rms Veirano Advogados, Machado Meyer Advogados and Demarest Advogados.
In the labour department, Martinelli comments: “We noticed a demand from our clients for more consistent and closer support with complex labour issues,” adding that “with Mariana joining we aim to strengthen our relationships with these companies.”
Rothschild hopes to bring her experience “to strengthen the Martinelli team and delve deeper into the challenges and transformations in the tax eld, while Frydman says he is “seeking not only to develop strategies that bring security and tax efciency to clients, but also to expand [the rm’s] presence in the market.”

Martinelli has a full-service offering and is best known for its tax and M&A groups as well as its agribusiness, environment, labour and corporate law practices. An associate from the rm, Camila Araujo, ranked as second busiest in M&A transactions during the rst half of this year in Latin Lawyer’s Deal Tracker Report.
Tauil & Chequer is renowned for its transactional services, particularly its work on M&A, nance and capital markets transactions. In September, the rm bolstered its tax offering by hiring a partner from local outt Vaz, Buranello, Shingaki & Oioli Advogados. This came one month after the rm added repower to its litigation practice by hiring the former prosecutor general of Brazil as partner.
Best known for its corporate and M&A, labour, and pro-bono services, Motta Fernandes has also recently added data privacy to its offering.
